Title
Overview
Description

The BEng in Civil and Environmental Engineering provides broad engineering training with an emphasis on the areas of water and waste-water engineering, solid and hazardous waste management, and air/noise pollution control. As environmental quality is a major public concern all over the world, exacerbated in Hong Kong and Asia by their particularly rapid economic development, more and more resources are required to protect and manage our environment. Thus, properly trained environmental engineers will be in increasing demand in the years to come.

Internship training, industrial training, final-year project and capstone design project are included in our innovative and balanced curriculum. Internship training gives students opportunities to gain professional experience and apply theories to real-life situations. Students are required to complete a minimum of 6 weeks of on-the-job training in civil engineering consulting firms, contractors, developers, or relevant government departments, or an equivalent of 5 weeks of mock construction training under the supervision of professional practitioners.

“Studying at HKUST helped me to pursue my mission of helping people better adapt to their natural environment. I also wanted to challenge the traditional perception that civil and structural engineering is not a subject suited to women. If you don’t think you’re different, you won’t make a difference.”
